Expert Witnesses vs Ordinary Witnesses

An expert witness is the only witness we accept an opinion from. 🤓 An ordinary witnesses can only give information on their first-hand experience.

An expert can be anyone with specialized knowledge (e.g. medicine, windows, or ju jitsu). 👩🏾‍🎨👮🏻👷🏼‍♂️👨🏽‍🍳 Someone becomes an expert by being qualified by the court based on the relevance of their training, education, and experience.

Their duty is to objectively explain complex evidence and their opinion to help courts make decisions where the issues are beyond ordinary knowledge and experience. 👨🏻‍⚖️ They should be careful not to offer opinions beyond the scope of their expertise.
