VERY RARE - Old Irish Rail oil wagons move for the first time since 2006

A truly rare event happened on Thursday the 21st of June 2018. 071 class locomotive number 079 moved the old Irish Rail oil wagons from Heuston Guinness Sidings - Inchicore Works, but what was so special about this move was the fact that this was the first time the wagons turned a wheel since 2006, some 12 years ago. The old Heuston to Alexandra Road oil train stopped in 2006 and since then the rake of oil wagons have been stored, one half in Heuston, and the other half in Limerick.

The reason for this move was because the wagons needed to be moved to a different location due to the planned removal of the old Guinness Sidings at Heuston, the site will be totally cleared off to make way for a new CTC building.

The wagons will go into further storage in Inchicore Works, although it's unclear what the future is for these old wagons.

Footage was filmed at Islandbridge Junction.

Taken: Thursday the 21st of June 2018.
