The X-Trail Files # 12
Just a quick look at what's inside my car emergency repair toolkit.
Affiliate links to some of the more important contents in my kit;
Assorted Cable Tie, 500-Piece https://amzn.to/2OdkK4o
3 Colour Lens Repair Tape https://amzn.to/2D8oTpa
Hose repair tape - self amalgamating https://amzn.to/2CN7Ec2
Black PVC Electrical Insulation Tape https://amzn.to/2AxU0rQ
Nitrile gloves https://amzn.to/2SrnazE
Epoxy putty two part https://amzn.to/2P09HRx
Hose clamps (jubilee clips) https://amzn.to/2OWFDWQ
Automotive fuses https://amzn.to/2OYMtuO
As you'll see in the video, the only things I carry are the things that realistically you'll be able to do by the roadside - i.e fuse replacement, perhaps a hose, radiator or exhaust repair, temporary repair of cracked light lenses, bulb replacement etc and a few compact tools to do these simple tasks.
In 30 years of driving, I've never had to change a *clutch/DMF, pull a *cylinder head or change a water pump by the roadside. Modern cars means you just can't do these sorts of repairs outside of a workshop anymore. Therefore there's no point carrying a load of tools you just aren't going to use. It just means carrying extra weight and that means more fuel being burned to shift it.
The only additional tools I carry for winter season is a snow shovel, tow rope, spare warm clothing and boots.
*All these are major repair procedures and take a long time - even in a fully equipped workshop.
