Part 28 'Cutting out more rust from the sill'
Part 28 of the R8 Rover 216 GTi Twincam restoration vlog.
In this episode, I start cutting out more rusty bits from the outer sill. These are very localised patches of rust that have holed on the horizontal surface and the spot-welded vertical lip/seam. Since rust between spotwelds is impossible to treat properly, you need to separate the two panels by grinding off any paint and rust, then centre-punch the centre of the spot-welds then drill the top panel layer by using a spot-weld drill bit.
Since the video included power tool useage, I've added a Youtube music track where these tools are being used but lowered the volume when I'm talking.
Tools Used:
Makita oscillating multipurpose tool.
Angle grinder.
Old wood chisel.
Scraper. (modified by grinding it thinner so it can slide between panels).
