Ken Fisher Explains What Political Gridlock Means for the US Dollar.
Fisher Investments founder and Co-Chief Investment Officer Ken Fisher says there is a sneaky connection between the US dollar and US politics. Ken Fisher’s analysis shows that the US dollar tends to rise relative to other currencies in periods of US political gridlock, and the dollar tends to fall when one-party has real control of Congress and the White House.
However, Ken Fisher believes the current US political situation is nuanced and the dollar is reflecting that. Since the November 2020 US election, the US dollar has been strong, and Ken believes the dollar is telling investors there is an unappreciated gridlock effect right now. After a new US President’s initial “honeymoon” phase, gridlock often starts to take hold. Ken Fisher believes that is happening now and gridlock in Washington is stronger than people recognize. For example, the Democrats can only afford to lose two votes in the House of Representatives if they want to pass any new legislation. With margins in Congress so slight, the result is largely gridlock, which Ken Fisher has long said is a good boost for the stock market.
