Cherokee Days 2019 – Cherokee National Youth Choir 3
The museum's sixth annual Cherokee Days Festival brings together members from the three federally recognized Cherokee tribes (Cherokee Nation, United Keetoowah Band of Cherokee Indians and the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians) to celebrate and share their culture, history, and arts with the public. In this video, the Cherokee National Youth Choir sing folk, popular, and gospel songs in the Cherokee language. The choir was formed in 2000 in Tahlequa, Oklahoma to help preserve the Cherokee language. The choir director is Mary Kay Henderson.
This performance was webcast and recorded in the Potomac Atrium of the National Museum of the American Indian on April 13, 2019.
