Hurricane Larry at Category 3 status in the Central Atlantic

Hurricane Larry strengthened in the last 24 hours, from a Category 1 to Category 3 on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. The storm is expected to maintain major hurricane intensity for the full five day period as it steams out to sea and eventually towards Bermuda, with a peak expected at mid-Category 4 status.

The storm could also pose a threat to Atlantic Canada later next week with strong winds and heavy rainfall.
