However, this protection is not absolute. The Constitution allows exceptions—for example, dismissal can occur without a full inquiry in cases such as criminal conviction or when national security is involved. Even then, the decision must follow specific legal provisions.

In simple terms, government jobs in India are considered permanent because strong constitutional and legal safeguards make termination difficult without proper investigation and procedure, giving employees high job security compared with many private-sector positions.
