Spotlight On: Jaeger LeCoultre Reverso – as seen on television and film.

The Jaeger LeCoultre Reverso, with almost 90 years of history, has pulled off elegantly what no other watch has – reinvent itself from a sports watch, to a timeless dress watch worn by influential men and women, the world over.

Created for polo players in 1931, the watch’s geometrical, swiveling case was meant to handle sporting blows.

But with its almost-perfect proportions and Art Deco design, its appeal quickly spread beyond the polo fields.

Today, the Reverso is the ultimate day-to-night watch for dapper men, chic women and even on-screen leading men.

Here are the series and films who had their stars decked in the Jaeger LeCoultre Reverso.

Let’s begin with the superhero with a secret personality – businessman by day and crime fighter by night – Batman or Bruce Wayne.

Bruce Wayne has been keeping time with the Reverso since 1995’s Batman Forever, which starred Val Kilmer.

The Reverso’s swiveling case was simply the best metaphor for Batman’s dual personality

The Reverso made a return to the Batman franchise when Christian Bale took over as Batman in 2005’s The Dark Knight Trilogy.

In the first two films of the trilogy, Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, Bale wore a Reverso Grande Taille.

Grande Taille, or Large Size, features a taller case, but still slides comfortably under the cuff.

In the final movie of the trilogy, 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises, Bale switched to a Reverso Grande Date.

It features a large dual window date aperture, an eight day power reserve, and a case designed to suit modern times.

From one dapper gent to another, here’s Pierce Brosnan wearing the Jaeger LeCoultre Reverso Duo in 1999’s The Thomas Crown Affair.

Brosnan played Thomas Crown, a dashing billionaire who had very little to desire for --  so he decided to amuse himself, and plan the ultimate heist.

In the movie, Brosnan appears to be wearing a Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Duo.

The watch is prominently visible in various scenes, but seen up close, you’ll notice that the brand name has been removed from the timepiece.

Why? It’s because Pierce Brosnan was still under contract with Omega for his role as James Bond. The Reverso watch was hard to miss, nonetheless!

The Reverso was also used in one of the most well-loved and award-winning TV series – AMC’s Mad Men, which ran for eight years.

Jon Hamm plays Don Draper, a brilliant ad man and the lead creative of Sterling Cooper agency.

His tailored and classic styling helped resurrect 1960’s fashion during the show’s heyday; and had the modern man aiming for his sophisticated look.

In the second season of the show, the Jaeger LeCoultre Reverso becomes Don’s go-to watch, presumably to reflect the fact that he has moved up in the company.

The classic, Art Deco style, ultra thin case, and perfect proportions of the Reverso, go very well with Don Draper’s style.

Jaeger LeCoultre even made a limited edition watch especially for diehard Mad Men fans: the Grande Reverso Ultra Thin 1931 Tribute to “Mad Men.”

And finally, we have Leonardo DiCaprio’s watch in 2013’s The Great Gatsby. Watch aficionados continue to speculate if it’s a Reverso - but the period timepiece sure looks like it!

With a steel bracelet, rectangular case and Arabic numerals, the watch has all the makings of a Reverso Classique and fits right in with The Great Gatsby’s milieu.
