Willie Joseph: Late 1800s Little Known New Orleans Style Clarinetist Who Only Recorded In 1927.

Willie Joseph, clarinetist born in St James Parish (New Orleans) in c. 1892, was the brother of the sbass player Papa John Joseph and guitarist Nelson Joseph and the uncle of Earl Fouche, the asax player of Sam Morgan's Jazz Band. In c. 1913 along with Pops Foster he played with “Walter Blue” Robertson Band, in c. 1915 with Duck Ernest Johnson’s band, in c. 1920 with Louis Dumaine band, which included both of his brothers, in the mid 1920s with Bebe Ridgley’s Original Tuxedo Jazz Band and in 1927-1929 with Louis Dumaine’s Jazzola Eight, recording in 1927.
He was in the Dumaine's Band that accompanied the blues singers Genevieve Davis and Ann Cook, recording two tunes with each of the 2 singers in 1927.
In 1930s Willie Joseph played with Dumaine-Houston Jazz Band, with Percy Humphrey, with Willie Pajeaud, with Alton Purnell and Alvin Woods in 1937.
In early 1940s he left New Orleans, returning later there and where he died killed in an automobile accident in 1951.
