Celebrated artist John Armleder speaks with Hans Ulrich Obrist about his work.
John Armleder (*1948) is one of the most important and influential Swiss artists on the international art scene. For more than four decades the artist has created a unique universe of works of art including installations, appropriated ready-made sculptures, geometrical pattern and abstract 'pour' paintings. Armleder's art refers to and redefines how we look at different movements of modern art as well as popular culture and design. His visual investigation of what art is and what art can do continues to influence artists and surprise art lovers across generations and continents. Exhibitions of John Armleder have been held at major museums and galleries around the world including the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice and the Palais de Tokyo in Paris.
