Engraving gemstones is one of the most venerable applied arts coming from antiquity. Engraved gemstones were used as amulets, ornaments and objects of value. Modern gem engraving methods do not differ much from those of ancient artisans, it is also a manual labour requiring intelligence, imagination and phenomenal patience. These “pictures set in stone” are joyful and solemn, funny and thoughtful, inspired and fanciful, and always full of mystery.
