"Age of the Jet" dates to 1958 and is chock full of historic footage of aviation's earliest days, including excerpts from the film "Coast to Coast in 24 Hours" with the Ford Trimotor. It also includes images of Anne and Charles Lindbergh flying to pioneer new air routes (5 minute mark). A gigantic DO-X flying boat is seen at the 6:30 mark, and a Sikorsky S-42 Flying Boat as well. The DC-3 marked an appearance around 7:30 with Eleanor Roosevelt christening Eastern Airlines' service to New York from Washington DC. The film shows wonder images of the glamorous era of aviation before WWII, including Pan Am Flying Boats (one sets down at Wake Island at the 9:45 mark). The WWII role of civil and transport aircraft is seen starting at the 11:00 mark. Post-war airplanes including Lockheed Constellations and Boeing Stratocruisers are seen around the 12 minute mark, with new airports and infrastructure to support air travel. The age of the propeller plane ends at the 17 minute mark, and the jet engine emerges on the scene. The Comet I is shown, as well as turboprop aircraft such as the Viscount and Electra. The Comet 4 and Boeing 707, as well as the Tu-104 and DC-8, Convair 880, and French Caravelle, are all shown as well as an early flight simulator.
