The weather service warned of the possibility of inland gusts of up to about 100 km/h (60 mph), with stronger gales along some exposed coasts and hills.

It said large waves and beach material thrown onto roads and coastlines could cause injuries and endanger lives.

The Irish Met Office has warned of winds reaching average speeds of 30-40mph with damaging gusts of 50-65mph, which will be stronger on exposed coasts and on higher ground.

Scotland went from ban to knock today - the country's first water restrictions were quickly followed by heavy downpours within hours.
Before the water ban went into effect at midnight Saturday, severe thunderstorms began rolling across the West Coast, dumping millions of gallons of much-needed rain on the countryside.
