Pro Se Nation: standing up for oneself in the American legal system.

Pro Se Nation is in development as a book and Web video series. The purpose of Pro Se Nation is to explore the American legal system through the eyes and experiences of average Americans who have self-represented or are currently going it alone without an attorney, in cases ranging from the common to the extraordinary.

Pro Se Nation will explore the legal system now as it is, and what it could be, through the lens of the self-represented, and the vision and aspirations of legal scholars, lawyers, judges, activists, philosophers, and average Americans thirsting for access to justice.

It is not our intention to either encourage or discourage individuals to proceed without an attorney in legal matters, but rather to help average citizens gain a better understanding of how the American legal system works, so that they can be better advocates for themselves when their lives intersect with the law -- whether they choose to go it alone or seek the help of an attorney.
