Neva Gerber in a Badass Scene from THE TRAIL OF THE OCTOPUS

Neva Gerber (co-star of quite a number of early serials) and Ernest Garcia (as Wang Foo) display some unusually high-intensity acting for a cliffhanger here as they perform a scene from the long-lost serial THE TRAIL OF THE OCTOPUS Episode 10. Wang Foo here is keeping Neva a captive and determined to rid himself of his pursuer, detective Carter Holmes. She of course will defend him at any cost. This does not please cruel and imperious Wang Foo, who has previously ordered her perfumed and scheduled her to appear in his bedchamber later on that evening. Sparks fly between the two principal actors in this scene as they end up in a psychological battle, in which Wang Foo pulls no punches and after which Neva ends up devastated. She makes up for that, tho, by playing the emotion at hand up to the maximum stealing the scene from her hammy partner Ben Wilson who's been busy chewing the scenery in the closet. A superb example of great melodrama-style acting. Go Neva!
