HTML Definition Lists: dl, dt, and dd Explained | Metrik Rule

When your content is a set of terms and their descriptions — a glossary, a FAQ, a list of product specifications, or any key-value structure — the HTML definition list is the right tool. This video covers the dl container, the dt element for definition terms, and the dd element for definition descriptions.

We explain when one term can have multiple descriptions, how to group related terms, and why definition lists are a better semantic choice than unordered lists for paired content. Practical examples include a glossary, a specification table, and a FAQ structure.

We also cover the most common mistake: reaching for dl just to get an indented layout. CSS handles layout — dl is for meaning.
