My mom worked as a waitress at Pizza Hut in the 80s. When I got sick and missed school, she would take me with her to work. I'd get my own booth, a personal pan pizza with a golden crust, and a red cup with soda. The manager would give me a stack of red quarters for the tabletop Ms. Pac-Man. I'd play for hours, munching on pizza, while mom served customers. That smell of fresh dough, the laughter of visitors, and the hum of the arcade machine—it was all my paradise. Now, as an adult, I realize how mom tried to make my sick days magical. These memories warm my soul, reminding me of her care.
