In the ‘80s, my friends and I were little inventors. We’d take two eight-inch bolts, connect them with a nut, cut the gunpowder from cap gun caps, and stuff it inside. Tighten it up, toss it in the air—BOOM! It sounded like a shotgun. Neighbors would freak out, sometimes even calling the cops, thinking the neighborhood was under attack. But for us, it was pure joy—summer, laughter, adrenaline. No one got hurt, just ringing ears. I smile now, thinking back: it was a time without gadgets, when our imagination made us kings of the block.
