And to start them off, there is the Xiaomi SU7. The “Apple of China” has long expressed its intentions of guiding a smart car that is equipped with the latest technology that can take on the automotive giants of the world. However, the company’s primary goal is to beat Apple to the game. The Apple car has been a mythical creature for quite some time now, but Xiaomi is almost ready to roll out its first car. But does the Xiaomi SU7 have what it takes to beat its competitors? Let’s find out, shall we?

Since the Model 3 seems to be the primary target for Xiaomi’s SU7, it is important to see how the two compare and what strongholds Xiaomi has over the Tesla. But the SU7 won’t only be competing against the Tesla. It will also have to face off against the Porsche Taycan.
The main competition for the Xiaomi SU7 is undoubtedly the Tesla Model 3 sedan. This is evident just from the way the SU7 looks. Just as is the case with Xiaomi products looking similar to those from the West, you will find references to some of the most iconic cars the world has seen in the recent past.
The design of the 2024 Xiaomi SU7 seems to be inspired by different cars. The front has a very strong resemblance to the McLaren 765LT supercar.
Aside from the fact that the SU7 is a hotchpotch of several design concepts, it looks way smarter and much more appealing than the Tesla Model 3. And even though the Xiaomi SU7 has not yet been revealed officially, there have been some leaks that have revealed some of the mechanical and technical specifications of the SU7 sedan. And at first glance, it seems as though the Xiaomi SU7 is going to be a blisteringly quick sedan.
Just as is the case with EVs, the Xiaomi SU7 will come with a single-motor and a dual-motor variant. The single-motor will have a total weight of about 1,980 kg.
On the other hand, the dual-motor variant of the SU7 will be further split into two more variants. The first one is the Xiaomi SU7 Pro, whose motors will be capable of producing up to 295 horsepower.
On the other hand, the Xiaomi SU7 will have to up its game if it is going to beat the Porsche Taycan. Must Taycan models come with dual electric motors, with one powering the front wheels while the other powers the rear.
The SU7 will somehow be closer to the base model, which makes between 402 and 469 horsepower. The power depends on the battery size, but it’s rear-wheel drive only. For the best Taycan, there is the GTS, which comes with 590 horsepower and 626 pound-feet of torque. All Taycan models also come with an innovative two-speed direct-drive transmission that plays a pivotal role in the Taycan’s rapid acceleration. If the Xiaomi SU7 is going to compete against the Porsche Taycan as well, it is going to need more than it offers at the moment.
There is so much that we don’t know about the Xiaomi SU7 sedan, including some of the in-car smart features. We can only speculate that it will come with the recently announced HyperOS platform, which made its debut on the Xiaomi 14 series of flagship smartphones.
The leaked documents from China’s MIIT also reveal that the SU7 sedan will feature autonomous driver assists, for which it will have a dedicated roof-mounted LiDAR sensor system. Compared to the software that comes with the Tesla Model 3 right now and the vision system it uses, this is old-generation technology.
The Tesla Model 3 has the advantage of already establishing itself as a feature-rich, mid-range electric sedan in most developed and developing nations. With equally capable equipment and modern technology paired with a powerful electric powertrain, the Xiaomi SU7 could come out as an attractive alternative to the established supremacy of the Model 3 and other EV sedans from Chinese brands.
