Pictures in Motion Newsreel #1 (February 2021)
The Sunset Heritage Precinct, in Dalkeith , is one of Perth's most significant heritage sites, and has a rich history, dating back to the establishment of the Claremont Old Men's Home, in 1904, where it housed up to 750 men, in the 1930s.
It was renamed Sunset Hospital, in 1941, transitioning into a hospital, for both men, and women, in the 1960s.
The former hospital, and aged care facility, was heritage listed in 1997, and as well as now being a tourist attraction, it is home to a film and television museum.
Now this Heritage Precinct, is the venue where history and heritage come together, under one roof. Not only the history of the site, but also that of the entertainment industries, of cinema, and television.
As such, the Pictures in Motion Film and Television Museum, maintains a presence within this precinct.
The Pictures in Motion team, comprises a dedicated group of volunteers who are devoted to preserving our heritage, as represented by the moving picture art form, whether that be the cinema or television.
Each Tuesday, it has been the custom for the Pictures in Motion team, to participate in activities, that enhance the museum’s stature.
Teams of cinema veterans, and television veterans, engage in work to either restore equipment, or set up displays for future tours, and exhibitions.
This newsreel documents a small sample of the considerable work being undertaken by this dedicated team.
