International Students Try Russian Food | Herring Under a Fur Coat

In this episode of “International Students Try Russian Food,” Allison and Uğur try seledka pod shuboy (“herring under a fur coat”) – a colorful New Year's dinner staple that's got it all: beets, herring, onions, veggies, eggs, and, naturally, mayo! It most likely got its name from the resemblance of the colorful top layer of grated vegetables to a traditional Russian fur coat.

Our thanks to Allison Ascanio from Colombia and Uğur Bayar from Turkey for joining us in this first installment of our video series! Learn more about Allison’s experiences as an international student at ITMO in Spanish on her own YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/AllisonAP
