TaLAI: The EU AI act at a glance

The EU AI Act, which came into effect in 2024, turns years of voluntary ethical guidelines into legally binding requirements. For educators, this means moving from "use AI carefully" to "use AI responsibly by law."
This video offers a clear, classroom-focused overview of the Act's four risk levels: unacceptable risk (strictly prohibited uses such as emotion recognition or fully automated grading), high risk (admissions, grading, learning analytics, exam monitoring, all requiring transparency and human oversight), limited risk (chatbots and AI-generated materials, allowed with clear labelling), and minimal risk (everyday tools like spell checkers and translation aids).
You'll also find practical guidance on what this means day to day: knowing which risk level applies, keeping records, maintaining human oversight, and ensuring students are treated fairly and transparently.

The TaLAI project aims to explore methods and strategies for integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into teaching and learning practices in higher education (HE) while adhering to ethical principles. The project consortium will develop a digital TaLAI Platform, create an online TaLAI Course, and formulate Policy Recommendations for ethical AI integration in HE.
