Heel Down is Better Than Heel Up...UNLESS

Heel down is indeed better…as long as you have your throne adjusted THIS way. Otherwise you may want to consider switching to heel up. The point today is that ergonomics and throne height should actually determine the technique you use on the kick drum. This is actually at the core of what creates our “natural preference” toward one technique or the other. A foot technique video would not be complete without some talk of heel-toe, so we cover that too. I demonstrate my “heel-down” variation of heel-toe, showing some groove and fill examples with fast kick drum doubles. We finish by watching slow motion footage of the foot technique so you can get a clear idea of what I’m doing. Whether or not you choose to copy any of my technique doesn’t matter to me, but if it helps - it helps. :) Most importantly, find what works for YOU, based on how you play and how you have your kit set up.
