1958 Grand National Horse Race - Mr. What

The 1958 Grand National horse race, near Liverpool, England, began with 31 horses. They subsequently fell out along the course, leaving Mr. What to surpass horses Tiberetta, Green Drill, Wyndburgh, Athenian, and Goosander, stumble at the last fence, and win by 30 lengths — the longest winning distance since 1893. His total time was 9 minutes and 59 seconds. It was the only race that Mr. What won first place throughout his career.

Mr. What, an Irish-trained Thoroughbred, was ridden by English jockey, Arthur Freeman. Freeman, father of Conservative MP George Freeman, became best known for this 1958 Grand National race.
