Train Cab Ride NL / New VIRM Livery! / BONUS / Amsterdam - Hoorn / VIRM Intercity / June 2021

Hi everyone! Welcome to this premiere! I'm exited and honored to show you the first Youtube Cab Ride on the VIRM 2/3 in its new look! This week the brand new VIRM 2/3 intercity was introduced to our passengers. On Monday it made its first rides on the Amsterdam - Enkhuizen route. And by surprise I got to drive this train on Wednesday already. Still brand new and everything smelled like that as well. Love it! Enjoy the ride!

VIRM is about 20 years old now. And after that time we refurbish all our train. Time for a total make over this time. Its older brother VIRM1 was modernized in the past few years and that modernization is now finished. Now it's time for the VIRM 2/3 generation. This generation gets a whole new look as you can see. Very sleek and modern looking train. In my personal opinion I think this is the best looking train we have so far on the Dutch tracks. The train was completely stripped from the out and inside. About 85% of the old material was reused. A total of 99% of the train is recycled. NS also won prices for this.

Ok, let's start with the video! At the start of the video I made some pictures for you. The first one is seen from the back of the train in perfect light. Then one from the front and one from the cabin. As you can see the cabin is pretty much the same as the old one. The only big change is the NS camera fit to the top middle of the window.

We depart perfectly on time from Amsterdam Central station. Here we get spotted by spoorweg_fotograaf (instagram). The picture he took will be shown to you at our stop at Sloterdijk.

First stop! Amsterdam Sloterdijk. Do you see the look on the passengers faces? A brand new train, just for them! It's the first one driving on the Dutch tracks like this, so everyone is still surprised when it shows up.

Just before we arrive at Amsterdam Sloterdijk I let the passengers know our train wont make any other stops until Hoorn and therefor they need to change trains for other stations in between.

Even though most intercity's stop at this station, the intercity to Enkhuizen does not. This is because there's no space to do this in the train schedule. On the route to Hoorn we'll pass three bridges that also can be opened at specific times in the time table. So it's not just trains that are planned on this route.

The first of the three bridges without overhead wires is passed just before Zaandam Kogerveld. At this point the driver shuts down the trains engine power and the rest manages itself. The pantograph reach their highest point just before the bridge and then loose contact with the wires. On the other side the pantographs slide under the wires again and power can be set to the engines again.

Two bridges to pass at Purmerend. You can also hear the airconditioning keep on working on the rest power it has on board of the train. This is not work very long, but long enough to pass the bridge. Passengers wont notice anything on board.

26:20 Temporary Speed Limit
And then there's a temporary speed limit on the route. This is because there are three unguarded rail crossings at farm land located here. Heavy machinery sometimes uses the crossings and trains are hard to spot sometimes. The lower speed make sure the drivers see each other on time. Of course the train always goes first! These rail crossings will be taken away in a while and the speed limit with it.

And now we arrive perfectly on time at our final stop Hoorn. As a bonus you get to have a better look at the old and the new version of the SNG sprinter. All sprinters will get a yellow front because of better visibility when you see a train coming from great distance.
