Beating the Heat | RV AC Duct Modifications | Keeping the Fifthwheel Cool

💥 Our rig has been able to stay pretty cool for most of the summer so we didn't think too much about mods for our AC when we saw others doing them. Once we started getting into the 90s with a heat index pushing 110 degrees, we could tell our rig wasn't getting as cool.

💥 There was a couple in the park we are staying at that were doing some modifications in order to prep their camper to go boondocking in the badlands. One thing he mentioned to me was to take the ac vent covers off and tape between the vent cover and the ducting because there is usually a void in there where air escapes.

💥 I removed a few of our covers and was surprised by some of the voids where our ice cold air was escaping into the attic cavity. A little foil tape later and we could immediately tell a difference in the amount of air coming out of the vents. Foil tap is fairly cheap and a roll is more than enough. https://amzn.to/2ZZ1noJ

💥 The next modification we have seen others doing like Chad on Changing Lanes was the door handle stopper inside the air duct. We bought the half dome ones with the double sided tape on them. All you have to is place them in the center of the vent to the top of the duct. These act as a little ramp to force the air down through your vent. Again, we could immediately notice a difference! 💥 We also decided to buy a cheap box fan https://amzn.to/2ZYku2f and place it in the bedroom at the front of our fifthwheel. We have a second AC up there that is not ducted. It is a direct flow through unit and it makes the bedroom quite cool! The box fan helps to circulate some of the cooler air down to the main living area. Between the fan and the budget friendly AC Mods, we have noticed a huge difference in the inside temperature, even in the heat of the day. If we allow the AC's to run all night, we will wake up in the mornings with it freezing inside the rig! We are very happy with these updgrades.
