Is This Workcamping?! | We Left Our First Work Camping Job | How To Find Workcamper Jobs

💥 Well what can we say? Our first job at a campground was not a pleasant experience. If you've ever heard the expression "If it's too good to be true it probably is", this was the case with this campground. The interview, phone conversations, and emails with the owner of this campground went smoothly and we were led to believe that the owner had recently purchased this campground and was working to "fix" it up. He let us know that it needed a good amount of work and that there was plenty to give us both 40 hours a week. As a bonus we would be paid for all hours worked, receive a site, and we could let the kids tag along with us while we worked. Seemed like a perfect scenario. Plus the pay was exceptionally more than any other position we had interviewed for.

💥 Upon arriving at this campground Jordan had a bad feeling about everything. The property was in even worse shape than the owner made it sound and upon touring the property and facilities we knew this place was in trouble. While the amount of work did not bother us, the way the owner treated his 2 employees and the way he talked to everyone was enough for us to say this was not a great fit. Come to find out, the owner had owned this place for over 20 years and has had numerous workcampers arrive and leave within days or weeks. He even told us this once we were there. He was clueless about why people were leaving all the time.

💥 Brooke convinced me that we needed to stick it out for a couple of weeks and give it a chance. I reluctantly agreed. HAHA well it only took 3 days of working there for me to convince her otherwise. We were not going to be around someone who treated his employees poorly, called people stupid and talked down to them in front of everyone. And we weren't going to let our boys be around someone who acted like that. After working 3 days, we had a couple of days off. During this time we reached out to numerous campgrounds and interviewed with a few of them. We knew we needed to leave and we needed to do it quickly. Neither of us had ever walked out of a job before but we couldn't make it another 2 weeks being belittled and asked to work in dangerous conditions.

💥 Do your research on the campground before accepting a position. We did research this place and we read some bad reviews about it as well but the owner led us to believe he recently acquired the place and was working to turn it around. Our suggestion is to ask a lot of questions. Ask them about the bad reviews and if they have trouble keeping people for the duration of the season. We have started doing this and it has helped us to weed out a few campgrounds. This experience could of ruined our fulltiming dreams but we persevered and found an amazing experience for the summer season. Stay tuned for Part 2 to see where we end up!
