Touring The “Dollar Note” HDB Estate: A Last Look At Tanglin Halt Before It’s Gone

While change is inevitable, it's always a sad thing when you have to say goodbye to a place that you've called home. Built in 1965, Tanglin Halt is one of the oldest HDB estates in Singapore, and it obviously holds fond memories for the many people that have lived in the area since.

Under SERS, 31 housing blocks of 3,480 HDB flats and 200 market stalls and shops will be demolished - representing the biggest "en-bloc" since 1999. That's not to say that the previous occupants will be shortchanged, as they will be moved to new flats in nearby Margaret Drive, Dawson Road and Strathmore Avenue.

So this week, we've decided to do something a little different - to tour the Tanglin Halt estate before it is demolished. Here, we uncover some of the different nostalgic HDB blocks that make up the estate, as well as some of the sights and sounds as Reuben and Ghib tour this iconic place.
