Ali Ekber Çiçek (1935 – 26 April 2006) was a Turkish musician born in Erzincan, Turkey. One of his most noted songs is "Haydar Haydar", which took him approximately seven years to master. It is said that Ali Ekber asked himself, with regard to this song, "What did I do!" The song is often considered the pinnacle of symphonic Turkish folk music

The ashiq (literally “the lovers”) in Turkey still play their centuries old music that evokes the music of their cousins, the nomadic bards of the Central Asian steppes.
