Track 1 "Pajarillo de mi tierra" from the CD 'Harps From Venezuela 1" - Arpa Llanera & Canto Recio - Music and songs from the States of Barinas and Apure released on the INEDIT Label 2007 Collections Terrains Fieldworks. Made in France.
The musicians are from Barinas. Jose Gregorio Lopez, plays the harp and Carlos Alvarado is one of the best canto recio singers of Barinas, He was born in 1965 and self taught. Jose Manuel Aguilar, cuatro and Yilberto Rivero, maracas.
Two harp traditions have remained in Venezuela. The first is called the harp of the Llanos, or arpa llanera, from the name of the great plains in the southern part of the country, the other is called arpa tuyera from the name of the River Tuy, in the central region of Venezuela. The tracks off this CD are devoted to the arpa llanera.
Musicas Llanera is not in decline. On the contrary, the area where it is found and the body of music have been expanding constantly since the 1960s, when the harp and its music enjoyed something of a revival, both in Columbia and in Venezuela, reaching an almost national status.
The pajarillo is a bird of the llanos.
The pieces on this CD were selected from recordings made in Venezuela in 1999 with a portable digital recorder. The recordings were made in Barinas.
