ThorpyFX Chain Home...Vox Repeater Tremolo With A Boosty Twist!
Welcome to Perky's Analog Gear Demos. Please subscribe for more demos of vintage & rare effects pedals!
After years of wanting, I've finally gotten my hands on a ThorpyFX pedal to demo! Adrian and his team are based only 40 miles up the road from where I live, so I've had a soft spot for them despite never actually having plugged into one of their creations.
Today, we have the Chain Home Tremolo: Adrian's take - and indeed improvement - on the old Vox Repeater Percussion tremolo effect. As well as replicating the circuit using top-shelf components and giving control over both rate & depth, he's also included an outstanding boost circuit to bring the original circuit up to unity gain (and way, way beyond!) as well as a high-pass filter tone control to shape the low end. Versatile or what?!?
What do you think? A classic trem circuit given modern functionality? Or not for you? Comment below!
Guitar is a Gibson SG Standard with OX4 Low-Wind PAFs; recorded through a Hughes & Kettner Puretone (Fane AlNiCo A60; Aston Spirit Condenser and '70s Sennheiser MD441) and a Dr Z DB4 (Celestion AlNiCo Cream; sE RNR1 ribbon) with a Schoeps CMC6 room mic.
