Sitek Fuzzie: The Germanium Fuzz That Works AFTER A Buffer!
Welcome to Perky's Analog Gear Demos. Please subscribe for more demos of vintage & rare effects pedals!
Today, I've got a killer fuzz pedal from Andy & Hania Sitek - a husband-and-wife pedal company based in Gdynia, Poland, specialising in top-quality handmade effects. This is their wonderful Fuzzie - essentially, a Fuzz Face with NOS Germanium transistors. But it has a couple of tricks up its sleeve...
Firstly, the Texture control lets you scythe through the low frequencies...you can thin everything out and clean the sound up, or slam some serious low end content into the transistors to really make them sweat. Then, the Bias control lets you fine-tune how the Ge transistors are playing together - you can compensate for ambient temperature changes (not a big issue here in rainy ol' England!) and fine tune the character of the fuzz...as you turn the bias up, it gets slightly more spitty and aggressive.
But that's not it's ace-card. No...this is a classic Germanium fuzz that works after a buffer. I repeat: *IT WORKS AFTER A BUFFER!* For everybody who's ever struggled with having classic fuzz on their pedalboard, with it's usual diva-ish requirements of needing to be first-in-line...Fuzzie is the fuzz for you! You can put it anywhere; stack pedals into it; put pedals after it...whatever you throw its way, it'll thank you for it.
What do you think? Super-versatile and epic for being able to run anywhere on your board? Or not for you? Comment below!
Guitar is a Fender Strat w/ Fralin Real '54 AlNiCo 3 pickups. Recorded through a Hughes & Kettner Puretone (Fane F70; Aston Spirit Condenser and sE R1 Ribbon) and a Dr Z DB4 (Fane Ascension A60; Shure SM57) with a Schoeps CMC6 room mic.
