Whiskey River was originally released by Johnny Bush in 1972. Willie Nelson released a cover of the song on his Shotgun Willie album in 1973, and he frequently plays this cover in his live sets. Joining Nelson onstage were Kevin Smith (bass), Billy English (drums), Mickey Raphael (harmonica), and Willie's sons Lukas Nelson (guitar) and Micah Nelson (percussion/guitar).
