Texas Trail Cams - Woodcock on Trail Camera - Dec. 2022

Woodcock are fist sized gamebirds that look like short-legged shorebirds but the inhabit woodlands located near water. It seems that most folks have never heard of woodcock much less seen them so I wanted to post this video of one walking around in front of this camera.
They use their long flexible beak to probe the ground for earthworms or other soft-bodied invertebrates. I see them every winter whenever I spook them into flight while hiking around suitable habitat. This is the first time I've caught one on trail camera in daylight. They seem to be more active at night looking for "bugs".
Just looking at my place, I would not consider it prime habitat for these winter residents but the birds tell me otherwise. It might not exactly be called prime, but the birds are here every year. Just cool birds to see.
