Texas Trail Cams - Red Fox at Bat Cave - March 2021

This was a nice clip of a red fox checking out the mouth of the bat cave. I get several grey foxes weekly on my cameras, but reds are much less common. Saying that, I do get them on video about once or twice a year. Those vids are usually in IR & not post worthy. This was a nice daylight shot so I wanted to share it.
Most folks don't realize that the red fox (as a species) is NOT NATIVE to Texas. They ARE NATIVE in the northern U.S. but just not here. According to TPWD, forty red foxes were initially introduced in the 1890's near Waco for fox hunting. They apparently survived well & the rest is history with those found here now being the decedents of the initial release a hundred and thirty years ago.
