In 1987, a game debuted on the MSX by the name of 'Metal Gear'. In the three decades since, Hideo Kojima's tactical espionage action series has left its mark on the face of the medium in a number of ways. This is a video on just some of them.

Beginning with the original game, we go through each Kojima-led Metal Gear game in turn, with a focus on what about it was revolutionary, and how it changed video games more or less forever.

"The Metal Gear franchise follows the story of protagonist Solid Snake as he tries to rid the world of Metal Gears and atone for his sins. The Metal Gear series is well-known for its elaborate, complex plot-lines and large amount of cutscenes. The majority of games in the franchise fall under the Metal Gear Solid series. Another sub-series is the Metal Gear Acid series."
