Esta es cómo Santa María salvó al pintor que el demonio quería matar, porque lo pintaba feo.

"A quien quiere defender a Santa María no puede el demonio hacerle ningún mal."

Y de esto un milagro quiero contaros, de cómo Santa María quiso salvar a un pintor suyo, que intentaba pintarla a Ella muy hermosa, con todas sus fuerzas.
Y siempre pintaba al demonio más feo que nada, y el demonio, por eso le dijo:
-¿Por qué me desdeñas o por qué me haces aparecer tan mal a cuantos me ven?
Y él dijo entonces:
-"Esto te lo hago con mucha razón, porque tú siempre haces el mal y del bien no quieres saber nada."
Cuando esto hubo dicho, el demonio se irritó y amenazó duramente al pintor, que lo mataría, y buscó camino para hacerlo morir bien pronto.
Porque, un día, lo acechó donde estaba pintando, como he aprendido, la imagen de la Virgen, por lo que oí, y trataba de componerla muy bien, para que apareciese muy hermosa.
Pero, entonces, el demonio, en quien todo mal yace, trajo un fuerte viento, como cuando hay grandes turbiones y quiere llover.
Luego que aquel viento entró en la iglesia, echó por tierra el andamio en que el pintor estaba; pero él llamó en seguida a la Virgen, Madre de Dios, para que viniese a socorrerlo.
Y Ella, con tal rapidez acudió, que hizó que se sostuviese en el pincel con que pintaba, y por ello no cayó, ni pudo el demonio dañarlo en nada.
Y, al gran ruido que hizo la madera, vinieron las gentes en seguida, y vieron al demonio, más negro que pez, huir de la iglesia donde iba a perder.
Y vieron cómo estaba el pintor colgado del pincel, y por ello dieron loores a la Madre de Nuestro Señor que quiere a los suyos valer en las grandes angustias.
How Holy Mary saved the painter whom the devil had tried to kill because he painted him ugly.

"The devil can do no harm to the one Holy Mary defends."

Concerning this, I wish to relate a miracle of how Holy Mary saved a painter of Hers who tried to paint Her as beautiful as he could.
He always painted the devil uglier than anything else, and therefore, the devil said:
-"Why do you hold me in disdain, and why do you make me look so bad to all who see me?"
The painter said:
-"I do this to you with reason, for you always do evil and will never have anything to do with good."
When he said this, the devil got angry and threatened to kill the painter and sought a way to make him die quickly.
Therefore, one day he spied him there, as I learned, as he was painting the image of the Virgin. He tried to compose it very well, as I am told, so that She would appear very beautiful. However, then the devil, in whom all evil lies, caused a great wind to blow, as when a thunderstorm draws near.
That wind entered the church and knocked down to the ground the platform on which the painter was standing. However, he called on the Virgin, Mother of God, to come to his rescue.
She came to his aid at once and made him hang on to the brush with which he was painting, and so he did not fall nor could the devil harm him in any way.
The people came at once at the loud crash the falling timbers made, and they saw the devil blacker than pitch flee from the church where he met his defeat.
Then they saw how the painter was hanging by his brush, and they gave thanks for this to the Mother of Our Lord, who assists Her own in time of great trouble.
