🎨Paint the Pain Away 💔(Oil Speed-Paint)

🌟hello friends!🌟

welcome to a somewhat impromptu art session with me, this is a speed-paint of a small abstracted teapot piece I completed this afternoon. The medium is oil paint, and I feel like it's very beginner friendly because it's quite straight forward, and doesn't require any fancy materials.
I found it to be just what I needed to soothe my mind and think not of my sore, aching gums for an hour or so.
Since I couldn't voice-over most of the action, I wanted to jot some main points for you below.
- I did a quick composition sketch to get a rough idea of the line play I wanted overall. This canvas is super small compared to the scale I'm used to working on, so it was actually sort of refreshing to re-think how I approach painting.
I recommend starting with small paintings if you want a one-session piece, and it also conserves $ in paint and materials too.
- I started my oil sketch with burnt sienna diluted in some gamsol (the SMALLEST amount) gamsol is a form of paint thinner that is unforgiving if you overapply. Sometimes you want to go for that wet, flat and oily surface, but not in this case.

- most of the warm colors I began with are a mixture of white, lemon yellow, and cadmium red. I adjusted them slightly, and I felt it was quite aesthetic as a palette ✨
I almost wanted to leave it that way (which you could!) but I wanted to try pushing it past my comfort zone by introducing cold tones + colors that are deeper in value. I used an ultramarine blue for all the blues and greens. Near the end, the tan and brown/grey colors are also mixed with combining the blue with some red-orange and white.

As for my main design decisions- I literally winged the whole thing. I saved time and paint by not switching colors too often, and using the rest of a color off on a random part of the canvas before changing from red to green, for example. Very rarely would I need to wipe my brush on a paper towel. I painted wet-on-wet for the entire piece, and towards the end I had a very loaded brush so I could get some surface texture in. Most of the color choices were made because I wanted there to be a balance of warm and cold hues, in a variety of line and pattern.
The grey flowers were inspired by the etchings on the terrarium's glass, and the other forms were derived from the fabric print, the cacti forms, etc ! I hope to explain more into that in the future.

💖Let me know if you actually preferred this video without my voice-over, and want it to be mostly instrumental in the future, too?
Please give this a thumbs up and subscribe if you enjoyed! My sister will be following this video soon with the first episode of a series. 💖
