Ever wonder how to NOT set a skydiving record? Throw it by not even flying in the correct declared orientation. Check out the one person flying 'head up' during this all 'head down' skydive.

Inside view from a rare event in skydiving - a skydiver chose to intentionally sabotage a state record attempt.

While this skydiver's motivation can't be spoken of directly, the understanding was that this person had put in a great deal of effort to successfully organize a state record with local Texans just a few months before this event after consuming a year's worth of time trying to plan a separate event. Our group (compromised of a large group of Californians) came and, in an impromptu move, decided to set a new state record! While the glory of the old record was still fresh from only a few months prior, this skydiver was so upset that their record would likely be retired they chose to very publicly demonstrate their intention to stop us from doing so. The aftermath of this jump was pretty wild, including some altercations, tears, and banning.

This is the point of skydiving records - to have them be broken (in some cases on the same day). Luckily, time permitted a few more attempts and a new record was set much to their chagrin. While the sportsmanship of this person in the moment was distasteful and arguably dangerous, over the passage of time this skydiver has seemed to atone for their transgressions, although it took years for that to occur.
