Ludwig van Beethoven’s Bagatelle in A minor, WoO 59, “Für Elise,” is one of the most beloved and recognizable piano pieces ever written. Composed around 1810, this short work combines lyrical elegance with a touch of gentle melancholy, creating a melody that is both intimate and unforgettable. Despite its simplicity, Für Elise reveals Beethoven’s extraordinary ability to convey deep emotion through delicate musical gestures, making it a timeless favourite for listeners around the world.

These Seven Variations on the theme of Bagatelle No. 25 by Maestro Angelo Martino pay tribute to the genius of Ludwig van Beethoven, reimagining one of the most beloved melodies in the piano repertoire. Beginning with the instantly recognizable theme of Für Elise, the work unfolds through a series of graceful and progressively evolving variations, each offering a fresh perspective on Beethoven’s original idea.
Throughout the piece, Martino explores different colours, textures, and expressive nuances, maintaining a sense of continuity while gradually expanding the musical language. The journey culminates in a final variation shaped as a small fugue, a refined homage to Beethoven’s mastery of counterpoint, bringing both intellectual depth and elegant closure to the set. The result is a respectful yet imaginative tribute that celebrates the timeless beauty and enduring inspiration of Beethoven’s music.

Angelo Martino is an Italian pianist of rare versatility and distinction, whose international career encompasses solo recitals, concerto appearances, and critically acclaimed recordings. A winner of seventeen national and international competitions, he made his concerto debut at nineteen performing Tchaikovsky's First Piano Concerto — an early sign of the technical command and artistic maturity that would define his career.
Martino studied with two legendary figures of the piano world, Aldo Ciccolini and Paul Badura-Skoda, and was awarded the prestigious Diploma of Virtuosity from the Perugia International Academy. Particularly celebrated for his interpretations of Liszt, Schumann, and Chopin, he made history as the first European pianist to perform the original version of Liszt's Transcendental Études — a landmark achievement that speaks to both his scholarly depth and his formidable technique.
His performances across Europe have earned widespread acclaim, including a recital at the Fundación Juan March in Madrid broadcast live on Radio Clásica, and appearances in Salzburg that have drawn high praise from critics and audiences alike. With a vast repertoire and a reputation for combining intellectual rigor with genuine interpretive passion, Martino continues to captivate audiences on the international stage.
