Johann Sebastian Bach (1685–1750) is one of the pillars of Western music—a composer whose work feels both rigorously crafted and deeply alive. The Well-Tempered Clavier, Book I is Bach’s landmark cycle of 24 paired Preludes and Fugues, one in every major and minor key, moving chromatically from C major to B minor.
