Back In Your Own Back Yard - Paul Whiteman and His Orchestra - Victor 27689 (BVE-41471-4) 1/28/1928

Back In Your Own Back Yard - Paul Whiteman and His Orchestra - originally Victor 27689 (BVE-41471-4) 1/28/1928 reissued on the RCA Victor Vintage Series album "1928" - LPV 523, May 1966
Now this was Paul Whiteman's Orchestra at its finest. This is the alternate take 4, which I like, that was recorded on 1/28/1928 but was actually released in December of 1941. Whiteman had announced that he did not renew his recording contract with Victor Records and was headed for Columbia Records. However he had to fulfill his existing contract for recordings owed. This resulted in a marathon of recording sessions between January and May of 1928 that, despite the fatigued musicians, produced some of the finest recordings by Whiteman's Orchestra. Jimmy Dorsey was still with the band at this time. He would leave to join brother Tommy in another week to form the Dorsey Brothers Orchestra. Bix Beiderbecke and Frankie Trumbauer were the other jazz stars leading the pack. Bix is heard on cornet throughout this wonderful side.
