Residents of Trinidad and Tobago are facing heavy downpours associated with a rapidly approaching tropical wave.
Heavy rain began at midnight, five hours earlier than previously reported by the country's Meteorological Service.
A yellow weather alert has been issued.
The warning began at 5 am on Wednesday and is expected to last until 12 noon on Friday.
As the system moves over the islands, gusty winds in excess of 55 km/h are also reported.
There were reports of relentless flooding,landslides,abandoned vehicles, traffic jams, and power outages.
Motorists, pedestrians and homeowners are once again urged not to risk falling into flood waters.
The University of the West Indies at St. Augustine announced the suspension of classes due to flooding.
