Consequences - Lindsey Fillingham & Paulina Haustein

In spring 2020, as the UK went into its first lockdown, five groups of Guildhall School artists created a collaborative musical response to their experiences of this new way of living. Each artist created a 4-minute piece, which then formed a 20-minute long work called ‘Consequences’. Artist and illustrator Soofiya has created a series of drawings inspired by these sound works, titled 'Tapestry of Consequences'.

These sound pieces will be released over the next few weeks with their corresponding visuals our website. See the full collaborative digital exhibition: https://www.gsmd.ac.uk/spring_2021/consequences/

Summer 2020: England, Germany, Zoom. A patchwork of spoken and musical conversation. Drawing on thoughts and emotions that arose through discussing their pandemic experiences, the two artists responded by improvising online, together and in isolation. Technology created possibility and even connection – video conferencing, sound layering – but highlighted their longing for in-person playing.

The tapestry panel for this sound work focuses on the technological aspects of their interaction. A laptop with an eye watching, watched and being watched. The hand in the bottom corner highlights the artists’ longing for human interaction and collaboration.
