The Many Faces of Autism | Garrett Lees | TEDxPaloAltoHighSchool
Growing up as an autistic teenager has given speaker Garrett Lees a unique perspective on society. Lees discusses the stereotypes he has encountered throughout his life, as well as how it has shaped him into who he is today. Lees is passionate about helping the world see that having any type of autism is not something to be ashamed of, and with a little effort, anyone with autism can fit in and be helpful to others in unimaginable ways.
Garrett Lees is a part of the organization his parents started called Autism Social Connection, a specialized social film-making group designed to encourage collaboration, creativity, and career exploration in children, teens and young adults with autism spectrum disorders. Sessions help develop social skills and encourage group interaction, while teaching valuable lessons in cooperation, time management, and artistic expression.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx
