The History of the Japonic Languages

The Japonic languages are a language family that comprises Japanese and the Ryukyuan languages. Languages in this family are characterized by particles, liquid consonants, and a subject-object-verb sentence structure, among other features. This video presents the history and evolution of the Japonic languages from 1800 BCE to the present.

DISCLAIMER: all dates are approximations, and the Peninsular Japonic hypothesis, though relatively credible, is still in contention.
