Hidden Dangers of Large Dust Piles | Avoiding a fire at your portable sawmill

Being aware of hidden dangers of a large dust pile can help you in avoiding a fire at your portable sawmill. Many of you are aware that wet hay bales can lead to fires in a barn but if you're like me, you may not have thought about your dust and wood chip piles from your sawmill. Now let's be honest here, you may have gone years and years and years without any issue but at least knowledge of the issue can helpful. In this video I"ll talk about some things that can help you prevent spontaneous combustion in large piles of sawdust and wood chips and reasons why it may be happening. I"ll also refer to a document published by the Ontario Fire Marshal's office and their suggestions to keep your large piles of wood chips (and dust), safe. I"ll also be digging into some small piles of wood chips and sawdust that I have accumulated from my sawmill and talk about what the inside of the pile feels like after a heavy rain like the one we just had. Today's topic is an interesting one and I'm glad you're all here to give your input and experiences on the topic. If you're interested in reading the document I was referring to in my video, check it out below in the link.
