How to paint a Sunset Sky: oil painting technique

How to paint a sunset sky the easy way. To create this oil painting, I first created an underpainting using burnt sienna thinned down with turpentine. Before this dries come back with a rag and wipe out you light areas of the painting. Utilizing this technique will allow you to see where you need to go with you next layer, so you are setting up a basic tonal map to guide you into your next step. Next you can start laying in the bulk of the color. Once you have the color mapped in you can start to add color shifts to the painting to add to the vibrancy.
