Trees are the Historians I Consult - Southern Piedmont Chapter - Aug 2022
Dr. Neil Pederson, senior ecologist of the Harvard Forest, will describe how scientists access the memories of trees using tree-ring analysis or dendrochronology. During this session Neil will touch on how we conduct some of the science and then go into detail on how it might be the most flexible tool in the scientific toolbox, especially in understanding how global change. We will discuss how we can determine the region of origin of wood that composed the vessel found under the World Trade Center, how trees in eastern NC could speak to the lives of the earliest colonists, and how we re-imagine the development and resiliency of the oldest forests in eastern North American.
